Shipping policy
Last updated: June 4, 2026
At District Design, we want your delivery experience to be as simple and transparent as possible. Here is everything you need to know about our shipping policies.
Service Area
Shipping is available across Canada.
If you live outside of Canada, we are happy to sell you products as long as you arrange and pay for your own carrier. Please contact us before placing your order.
Product Availability and Out-of-Stock Items
We strive to maintain a complete inventory to fulfil all orders. In the rare event that an item is out of stock, you will be notified by email with estimated delays and available alternatives. We will do everything in our power to get your products to you as quickly as possible.

Free Shipping
Standard ground shipping is free on orders reaching the minimum threshold for your province (see above). Free shipping applies to ground delivery only.
Exclusions:
- Canada Post's Omnibus service to very remote areas is excluded from the free shipping offer.
- Certain oversized or heavy products cannot be shipped as standard parcels. These products are clearly identified on their product page with the note: "In-store pickup and delivery by our truck (if available) only."
Shipping Methods
We select the carrier based on logistical requirements to offer you the most efficient and secure solution. We regularly use the following resources:
- Our own truck – for local deliveries in the greater Montreal area
- Canada Post – for smaller shipments
- GLS Canada (formerly Dicom Express) – for most paint shipments
- FedEx – for shipments to the Prairies and British Columbia
- Pallet delivery – for large orders
This list is not exhaustive. We have agreements with several freight companies and can adapt our choice based on your needs.
Order Tracking
As soon as your order ships, you will receive an email with the carrier's name and your tracking number so you can follow your parcel in real time.
Signature Upon Delivery
Most of our shipments contain items of value, so a signature is required upon delivery. If you are unable to be present, you may have your order delivered to an address where a trusted person can sign on your behalf.
Important: once your order has been shipped, we are unable to modify the delivery address.
Preparation and Delivery Times
- Order preparation: 1 to 3 business days
- Delivery in Quebec: 1 to 5 business days, depending on the shipping method
In 90% of cases, orders are delivered within an average of 2 to 5 business days from the time the order is submitted online.
Cold Weather Conditions — Freeze/Thaw Risk
Certain products sold by District Design (paints, stains, primers, coatings, adhesives and other liquid products) are sensitive to freeze/thaw cycles. During cold weather, a parcel may be exposed to low temperatures during transit — at sorting facilities, loading docks or in delivery vehicles. District Design cannot guarantee the temperature to which a parcel will be exposed during shipping.
Preventive Measures
During cold weather, District Design may apply measures to reduce risk depending on the product and destination: additional packaging, preferred carrier selection, shipping at the beginning of the week, or requiring a delivery signature.
Responsibility Upon Receipt
The customer must ensure that someone is available to receive the parcel and prevent it from being left outdoors. If contactless delivery instructions are provided (balcony, mailbox, entrance) or if an in-person reception is not possible, the customer acknowledges that this increases freeze/thaw risks and that District Design may not be held responsible for any resulting damage.
Procedure if Freeze/Thaw Is Suspected
If the parcel or products appear to have been exposed to cold — parcel very cold to the touch, product partially frozen, abnormal texture:
- Do not use the product immediately.
- Allow containers to come to room temperature indoors for 24 hours before opening, mixing or applying.
- Notify District Design within 3 days of receipt at info@districtdesign.ca, providing: photos of the parcel and products, invoice number and a description of the issue.
District Design will assess the situation and determine the appropriate solution (carrier claim, product replacement or other).
Remote Areas and Customer-Selected Carriers
For deliveries to remote areas or when the customer arranges and pays for their own carrier, the risks associated with shipping conditions (including freeze/thaw) may be greater. When the customer selects their own carrier, responsibility for shipping conditions falls to the customer once the order is handed over to that carrier.
Receiving Your Order
During cold weather, bring products indoors immediately upon receipt and allow them to reach room temperature before use.
The carrier is responsible for delivering your order in full and undamaged. You are responsible for counting the number of boxes received and visually inspecting your parcels BEFORE signing the carrier's delivery receipt. By signing, you confirm that the goods are in good condition.
Goods Damaged During Shipping
- DO NOT SIGN the delivery receipt — refuse the parcel.
- Take a photo of the damaged parcel.
- Send the photo by email to info@districtdesign.ca with your contact information and invoice number, within 3 days of receipt.
We will make the necessary arrangements with the carrier to resend your products in better condition.
Incomplete Order
- You may sign the delivery receipt and accept the parcels received.
- Take photos of the received parcels with the shipping labels clearly visible, and ideally the contents of each box.
- Send the photos by email to info@districtdesign.ca with your contact information and invoice number, within 3 days of receipt.
We will contact the carrier to locate the missing parcels. If they cannot be traced within a reasonable timeframe, we will arrange to send what is missing.
